PKI, Authentication, Encryption, Data Protection
  Public Key Infrastructure
In cryptography, a public key infrastructure (PKI) is an arrangement that binds public keys with respective user identities by means of a certificate authority (CA). The user identity must be unique for each CA. This is carried out by software at a CA, possibly under human supervision, together with other coordinated software at distributed locations. For each user, the user identity, the public key, their binding, validity conditions and other attributes are made unforgeable in public key certificates issued by the CA.

Authentication
Authentication is the act of establishing or confirming something (or someone) as authentic, that is, that claims made by or about the thing are true. Authenticating an object may mean confirming its provenance, whereas authenticating a person often consists of verifying their identity. Authentication depends upon one or more authentication factors.
In computer security, authentication is the process of attempting to verify the digital identity of the sender of a communication such as a request to log in. The sender being authenticated may be a person using a computer, a computer itself or a computer program. A blind credential, in contrast, does not establish identity at all, but only a narrow right or status of the user or program.

Encryption
In cryptography, encryption is the process of transforming information to make it unreadable to anyone except those posessing special knowledge, usually referred to as a key. Encryption has long been used by militaries and governments to facilitate secret communication. Encryption is now used in protecting many kinds of civilian systems, such as the Internet e-commerce, mobile telephone networks and bank automatic teller machines. Encryption is also used in digital rights management to restrict the use of copyrighted material and in software copy protection to protect against reverse engineering and software piracy.
